FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REDDING, CA (April 24, 2023) - The long-awaited Environmental Resource Building at the Turtle Bay Nursery is breaking ground on Wednesday, April 26 from 8:00am - 8:30am. The new infrastructure will feature a classroom, nursery storefront, and office space for the Horticulture Department staff. The community is invited to the ceremony to celebrate this exciting addition to Turtle Bay’s campus.
The Environmental Resource Building (ERB) is made possible by grants from the California Cultural & Historical Endowment and the KBK Foundation. The building will be replacing the existing double-wide trailer that has hosted past programs and events at the Nursery and has served as the Horticulture Department’s office for the last two decades.
Horticulture Manager, Lisa Endicott, shares her enthusiasm for the new Environmental Resource Building, “We are so excited to have space for camps, classes, and workshops. Right now we don’t have separate staff offices and a classroom, so it’s great to have a dedicated space that will be used for lots of different things; I’m sure there are some uses that we haven’t even thought of yet!”
The ERB will feature a 2,821-square-foot building and 1,570-square-foot outdoor patio space. The multipurpose classroom can host up to 56 guests for various events. The building also includes offices for the Horticulture Department, a Nursery register and checkout space, and a volunteer workroom. The ERB is a great enhancement to the overall Nursery, providing more space to propagate drought-tolerant plants for the public to purchase, as well.
President and CEO, Lindsay Myers, says, “The new Environmental Resource Building is yet another gathering place for the community to enjoy on our campus. The possibilities for the space are endless and we are excited to provide a variety of educational programs in a safe, beautiful setting.”
The groundbreaking of the Environmental Resource Building will begin at 8:00am at 1100 Arboretum Drive. Coffee and pastries will be provided for attendees. Learn more at turtlebay.org/erb.
